We had a really fun weekend! Friday night we got together with Chris' great aunt and uncle and all of their family to celebrate 2 of his cousins graduating! It had been a while since we had seen everyone and it was fun to chat and to see how much the little ones are growing. We got home later than we had planned, which made our plan to get up early Saturday morning not work quite as well (meaning we repeatedly hit the snooze button).
Saturday when we finally did get up, we headed up to Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, UT for an Air Show! I had only been to one other air show ever in my life and it was pretty awesome, so I was really excited about this one (plus it was free!!). While waiting in line to go through security, we randomly saw a neighbor couple from our ward. It was so fun to run into friends! We hung out with them all day playing cards, walking around to look at the planes, watching the aerial shows, and getting very sunburned. The Thunderbirds (the Air Force's version of the Blue Angels) were last, and were definitely the highlight of the show. It was amazing! Thanks to my smart hubby's insistence on parking near the exit no matter where we are, after the show it only took us about 10 minutes to get off the base and on our way. (We heard from our friends that it took them about 1 1/2 - 2 hours to get off the base because of all the traffic!)
After the air show, we headed out to Eagle Mountain, UT for a Josh Gracin & Darryl Worley concert! It was a show put on at an outdoor ampitheater by the city and a local radio station as a Tribute to the Troops. It was awesome! The performers were great, the weather was great, the fireworks at the end were great, and it was really great to see them honor the men & women of the military. Each performer also had an emotional tribute to the troops as part of their performances. We definitely came away with a renewed appreciation for our country and especially the soldiers who keep us safe.
Thinking back on the concert reminds me of 2 of my favorite quotes:
-"If you don't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them!"
-On a bumper sticker... "If you're reading this, thank a Teacher. If you're reading this in English, thank a Soldier!"

ReplyDeleteI like your quotes. And yes, Chris is a smarty b/c my in-laws were there and it took them FOREVER to get out of the parking area. All this air show talk makes me want to go see one. Yay for patriotism and parties. And getting a day off for 4th of July in a few weeks! Have a fantabulous day.
ReplyDeleteMy grandfather lived in Ogden and I remember being little and going to visit and we'd be at the park or swimming in the pool in his complex and the fighter jets would fly over us on their way to and from the base. How cool to see a show! Miss you!
